VE Day 2020

Published by Jennie Knight on

Today we marked 75 years of peace in Martinpuich. The Mayor had asked us all to stay clear from the memorial while he marked the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe so we walked up one hour later to lay our wreath, bringing us in line with our family and friends in the UK.
Our thoughts were with our mothers.
John’s mother lost her first husband in 1944. For her V E Day would always be bitter sweet.
My grandfather was serving as a doctor in Burma. It would be months before he returned to his family as so many of the prisoners released after V J Day needed treatment before they could travel home.
